Gary T. Kowatch, P.E., PMP, (MSCE) is the Chief Bridge Engineer and Project Manager with The Markosky Engineering Group, Inc.. As such, Mr. Kowatch is responsible for overseeing the structural design operations for both our Ligonier and Greensburg, PA offices.

Mr. Kowatch, a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Arizona, has over 23 years of civil engineering experience. He earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1987. Mr. Kowatch has earned certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute. The PMP is recognized, worldwide, as the gold standard in project management certification. Mr. Kowatch also holds certificates in project management from The Pennsylvania State University and PMCenters, USA.

The majority of Mr. Kowatch’s 23 years of experience has been related to the design and construction of transportation facilities including complex structures requiring refined analysis. Mr. Kowatch has also provided services to the construction industry including participation as a member of design-build teams and performing value engineering related tasks. His experience also includes design management. As part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s design management team overseeing the design of the Mon Fayette Transportation Project, SR 0051 to Pittsburgh, Mr. Kowatch coordinated the review of structure related consultant work products for several design sections. Additionally, Mr. Kowatch has participated in transportation research projects such as NCHRP 12-79, which involves developing guidelines for analytical methods and erection engineering of curved and skewed steel bridges.

Mr. Kowatch is an active member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and a Past Membership Chairman with the Association for Bridge Construction and Design, Pittsburgh Chapter.
